So… I don’t really ‘like’ music, it’s all just irritating noise to me. 😐 But I’m aware that I don’t really go looking for less mainstream music.
So yea recommend me a good song to get me to change my mind? 😀April 30, 2012 at 3:36 am #3409MicrosofttParticipant
Looking in the region of Dubstep/Techno?
I’m your guy.
Remember to listen to these with an open mind:
Also, haters gun hate.
I dont need you to tell me if this is fake/real dunstep or not. Enjoy Limey!April 30, 2012 at 10:30 am #3410spacecatapultMember
It’s hard to say when we don’t know where to start, but there has to be hope right? Let’s try something a little more accessible:
Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes:
Do any of those do anything for you?
PS. Micro, did you actually read his comment before you posted those? (“it’s all just irritating noise to me”)April 30, 2012 at 3:01 pm #3411MicrosofttParticipant
I did see that, but like I said, you have to listen to it with an open mind. He asked for people to give him some music so I game him my definition of music 😀May 1, 2012 at 2:04 am #3412gravehorrorvacuiModerator
Fair warning: This post generally goes from “most listenable” to “fucking strange”. Also, most of these songs are much longer than your average pop song. I feel all ADHD and shit when I hear pop music, so thats why you’ll find longer songs here. You say you don’t go looking for less mainstream music, so I did my best to put on my hipster clothes and find some really underground stuff. If any of this interests you, I can point you in search of similar stuff pretty easily. This covers a good deal of the kinds of music I listen to in general, but I listen to just about everything. That being said, this is also very far from a complete picture of everything I listen to and even further from a complete catalogue of all musical styles. If something from this list doesn’t catch your ear, there are some other corners we can investigate that may be up your alley.
… Okay just kidding. That’s some early 19th century atonal stuff.
How about some rock and roll?
What the Blood Revealed – The Corporation as We Know it is Dead, Dead, Dead
Cloudkicker – Amy, I Love You
Om – Meditation is the Practice of Death
Earth – High Command
Tomahawk – God Hates a Coward
Now lets mix it up, how about jazz?
Miles Davis – So What
Medeski, Martin and Wood – End of the World Party (Just in Case)
John Scofield, Jaco Pastorius, and Kenwood Dennard – The Chicken
Pat Metheny Trio – Cantaloupe Island
Mouse on the Keys – Spectres de Mouse
Soil and “Pimp” Sessions – Summer Goddess
Maybe something… a little more out there?
Sunn O))) – It Took the Night to Believe
Shpongle – The Dorset Perception
Hiromi Uehara – Kung-Fu World Champion
Diablo Swing Orchestra – Lucy Fears the Morning Star
Whourkr – Slaagt
Engine Earz Experiment – Kaliyuga
EDIT: BONUS TRACK! Dimitri Shostakovich – String Quartet #8, Op. 110 LISTEN AS THE USSR OPPRESSES YOUR SOUL!
Ahem, sorry about that. Shostakovich just needs more love, is all. The man fucking signed his name with MUSIC! (As in, there’s a little 3 note phrase that appears in almost all his compositions that corresponds to letters in his name. He’s far from the only composer to do this, but he was awesome regardless.)
EDIT 2: BONUS BONUS TRACK! (I’ll stop after this, haha!) Opeth – Ending Credits This isn’t typical Opeth, but its damn good.May 13, 2012 at 11:10 pm #3413NadarekyleParticipant
Ladyscraper – Thou Art Fucking Dead
at a lan party I was at, and my friends stared at me as I stared at the song produced by those-who-eat-weed, completely mesmerized. Thank you. 🙂

Try these, my two favorite musicians:
and Harry Chapin
Unfortunately, youtube does not have a large collection of Harry Chapin music, but if you get into him, and like his songs, then I have all of them. Tragically both of these musical geniuses died in crashes, plane and car respectively, over forty years ago (I’m not that old).
