MemberMetal has been making old people cringe for much longer than dubstep, so I think it needs its thread here. Give us your recommendations or brag about sweet solos that you’ve experienced in person.
This Wednesday I’m heading to the first night of the Heritage Hunter Tour where I will be seeing these three:

ModeratorFuck yes! I’m trying to see that tour when it comes around my town. I just need the money 😀
I’ve been digging a lot of proggy instrumental stuff lately.

ModeratorSo many choices to choose from to recommend.. I’m more into the whole folk/viking/melodic metal, though I’ll listen to almost any sort of metal you can throw at me.

ParticipantSlipknot. True story bro. And I guess some 3 Days Grace music can be considered metal too, so, them too.

ModeratorTsubino: Check out Tyr if you like the folk metal! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdO3qheFrxs
Nadar: Slipknot makes me 🙁

ModeratorThree Days Grace is totally not metal – it’s just heavy punk.
…my kind of music. 🙂

InactiveI absolutely love Opeth. Even their ballades.

ModeratorIts the ballads that make Opeth! Damnation is one of my favorite albums of all time.

MemberRidddle and grave, you’d be happy to know that Opeth killed it. Grave, if you manage to go, you can also look forward to Windowpane from Damnation. The set was good if you like newer Opeth. One song from Deliverance and each new album since, plus plenty from Heritage. Seemed short to me, but that could be because Mastodon closed out the night.
Anyone who hasn’t checked out Ghost yet needs to do right away. The band is going to be huuuuge. Highly recommended for anyone into Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath and the devil. They’ve got what they do down to a science and it was fantastic to watch.

ModeratorI believe the night near me is an Opeth headliner. I know they’re swapping back and forth for this tour, which is one of the coolest things. I think it shows how much respect the two groups have for each other. In a perfect world I’d be able to get down to Atlanta for the last show of the tour. Mastodon is headlining that night in the venue where the started. I can’t imagine how awesome that night will be.
Also, I’ve heard some rumors that the singer of Ghost was the singer for Repugnant back in the day. I totally dig their sound too. Its very doomy.
