I wasn’t sure where else to post this, so I decided on this forum.
This post will no doubt upset some people or cause more of a negative light to be cast on me, but that’s not my concern. My concern is staff bringing personal feelings to the table while on mod duty. This is not the first time that this has happened but it was more blatant this time.
I asked how to submit a ticket. Now, after reading the ss’s, I see the Ereh_Dogon attempted to reply after me asking 4 times. I missed a ss of the other 2, but they should be in chat logs. It’s only when I personally called his name, did he attempt to answer. After reading that, I went back in chat to ask a different way *just in case* no staff member knew what I was trying to ask. Again, ignored. As I said, this is not the first time this has happened. It’s happened enough to provoke me to post, and I usually keep to myself and play the game..
What is the point of this post? I would like for it to be emphasized to staff that their personal feelings, should not play a role in mod duties. Why do I say personal feelings? I know some people have a *problem* with my prefix or how they feel I got it. First of all, let me say, nsanidy changed my prefix to that. He felt it warranted. It should be of no ones concern. Why do I say people have a problem with it? Because Ereh mistakenly typed in general chat when it was being discussed. Something to the tone of “She complained until he changed it”. That didn’t bother me… It was rather funny. Like me, hate me, I don’t care. I understand I’m not the sweetest, friendliest or most talkative person. But what I don’t do is, break rules, grief or disrespect anyone. Be it staff or not. The color of a persons name, means nada to me.
I’m not here to incite an argument. I have never seen mods deal with anyone else this way. Most of the time, they’re helpful. But, I’m not really the type to bite my tongue. I’d at least like it addressed.
Having no idea who you are, and therefore no preconceived notions about your attitude/personality, I feel qualified to respond.
Firstly, I’m a happy girl. I get picked on, hit on, booted, promoted, it’s all good. I like to think I never let personal opinion get in the way of my moderating, so I take offense to the broad statement ‘staff bringing personal feelings to the table while on mod duty’.
If you’re a mod, you are by default ‘on mod duty’, and as Nsan has said multiple times, this can mean helping as much or as little as you like. We aren’t paid, nor do we apply for the role. If we’re a certain combination of responsible and friendly enough, he asks if we want to help with modly duties. First and foremost, we’re there to play Minecraft…and perhaps catch up with friends.
Having read your post, and reviewed your screenshots, I can quickly say a few things: one, a whole bunch of people are talking at once; two, moderators have several channels that they can view at once and it is common for lines to be buried in chat; and three, you were in fact being ignored, whether voluntarily or accidentally, by everyone online at that moment in time.
The MCNSA mod community are a fiery bunch; we abuse and support each other regularly. For some people, personal feelings are impossible to separate from their moderator roles, and this can be both beneficial and detrimental. I am sorry that you feel that the entire mod body is immature and irresponsible, but I’m sure you can agree that your statement is inaccurately broad…Ereh is one person, and even if he is uncomfortable with your prefix, he is, in fact, one person.
You have done the right thing by bringing your concerns to the forum; but please avoid seeing ‘MCNSA staff’ as one entity. I’d suggest that next time you are online and are being ignored, that you send a private message either to one of the mods, or another player (perhaps Cardinal and above). It takes an effort like Micro’s for a whole server to be unified in picking on someone, and I’m sure you’d feel less victimised if you gave the mod team ‘the benefit of the doubt’.
TL:DR; MCNSA’s ‘staff’ are all unique, none of us are perfect, and overall, the server is much more supportive/friendly than the impression you have taken. 😉
AND I THOUGHT I WAS KEEPING IT BRIEF
It’s okay if it wasn’t brief. I appreciate a response. And it was no way my intention to lump the entire staff together. I haven’t had the opportunity to deal with most of the staff, but I definitely did not say “the entire mod team is irresponsible and immature”. I didn’t even hint at that. My mistake if I came across that way.
And I understand your point about this being a voluntary thing. If you tell me “hey, we can treat people the way we want, and there’s nothing you can do about it. And nsan is okay with this”, I’d leave it alone. At least I know what to expect. I have thick skin, but honestly, I expect and was expecting more from someone who volunteers to take on the role as mod. But maybe that’s just me. I had a problem at my house, I didn’t know what to do about it. I asked for help. I didn’t curse out anyone… nor did I act like some idiot. I may have been ignored by everyone, but I didn’t expect everyone to be of help. Just the staff that were talking in chat at that time.
And I don’t feel *picked on*. I don’t play victim very well. And as I said, the color of a name, is not impressive to me. And I’ve given certain mods the benefit of the doubt. As I said, this has happened more than once, with Ereh. I don’t know him, and I’m indifferent about him. Meaning I don’t like or dislike him, but he is the one whom I saw speak about me negatively. it’s not about “Why are they talking about me”, or even who likes me. I don’t need everyone to be my fan, and I certainly don’t work towards everyone liking me, but I expect not to be disrespected if all I show is respect. Whether the person is my favorite person or not. But your statement has somewhat changed my view. I will expect less, but that’s not necessarily a good thing.
side note: There are a couple of mods that I’m actually fond of. Others, I simply don’t know.
I haven’t had the opportunity to deal with most of the staff, but I definitely did not say “the entire mod team is irresponsible and immature”
My bad. That would be my over-sensitive lady genes kicking in.
If you tell me “hey, we can treat people the way we want, and there’s nothing you can do about it. And nsan is okay with this”, I’d leave it alone.
We are supposed to treat people well; but this doesn’t always happen. There is plenty you can do about it. 😉
I don’t feel *picked on*. I don’t play victim very well.
When I’m the victim, I’m not playing; I’m literally on fire. Next time you need help, and asking gets no response, all you can do is wait. Or in my case, burn to death at the bottom of a lava pit.
But your statement has somewhat changed my view. I will expect less, but that’s not necessarily a good thing.
Sure it is! At least now you can’t possibly be disappointed. MCNSA is like any other organisation – we have rules, and guidelines, and are supposed to follow both. But, we’re only human. I’m not excusing this sort of behaviour, but it exists, nonetheless.
EDIT: My signature seems particularly appropriate in this scenario. ^__^
I’m sated with your response. And you made me laugh… Thanks for your time.
While this is a necro post since someone only just informed me about this. (I don’t frequent the forums much)
I would like to clarify some things if you’re still around. None of this is meant to be in any sort of tone I just want to explain my side of it is all. No hard feelings 😀
1. I like Tana said had a bunch of channels streaming and its a lot of text at once. Half the time I don’t read general cause too much more is going on. Unless you call me out. Or I’m just bored sitting around reading chat.
2. I was actually handling a modreq for Lnx while also being silly with the Ereh Puns. I remember it pretty well. The rollback that we couldn’t stop was griefing everyone essentially and I was spending most my time cleaning up the modreqs related to it.
3. I don’t have a problem with your prefix, the comment is out of context because I derped and didn’t put a /a infront of my text. I was explaining to another mod why you had the “Nothing” Tag. That you had donated and had the Dark Title I believe (I was there when nsan changed it to “Nothing” I also thought it was hilarious). In gist it was that you had gotten your title for donating but thought you would get the title as a rank, so you complained about it and nsan changed it to nothing because you said “I’d rather having nothing than this”
4. I had only noticed your last question of how to start a “ticket” and because earlier on we were discussing PO8 Lottery, wether in the mumble or G I can’t remember I assumed you were asking how to come about getting one of those. and when I asked if that’s what you meant, you never replied back.
With all that said, I’m sorry I wasn’t able to tell you how to preform a modreq. Hope you’re still around and this event didn’t discourage you from continuing to play here.
Also, just ignore Ereh, he’s what we in New Zealand call a “little bitch”. As the sexiest Templar, you have my permission to refer to him as that whenever you like.
